About

The Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto (CAGT) was founded in 1974 by Alf Ebsen and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1975. A resident group at NPCC for about 20 years, CAGT has continued to provide opportunities for the study of calligraphy, its history, cultural tradition and application for all ages through members’ meetings, classes, workshops and exhibitions.

Programs and Guild Meetings

CAGT meets at Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30pm or Sunday afternoons at 1pm as scheduled (see Dates below).

Dates for 2018 and 2019 are: September, 13, October 11, November 8 and December 13, 2018; January 13, February 10, March 14, April 11, May 9 and June 13, 2019. We also have summer meet ups for those interested.

Our meetings offer a variety of educational and hands-on activities related to the calligraphic arts, including guest speakers, artist demonstrations and opportunities to practice with experienced instructors. We work with all types of lettering arts and materials from gouache to gold while learning about calligraphic history, design, decorated letters and more. In addition, our courses and workshops occasionally offer internationally known instructors.
