An in-depth series that will take you on a journey from fleece to yarn. Fleece will be sourced from a local farm, and the shepherd will visit to talk about the sheep, shearing and fleece qualities. Participants will learn how to select, wash, process, spin and dye fleece to make something lovely and warm. The time between weekly sessions will allow participants to complete some work. No prior experience needed, just an interest in learning how to make yarn from this wonderful fibre called wool! Joan is a member of the Etobicoke Handweavers and Spinners. Materials included.

Working with paint, paper and various tools we will make elements, layered surfaces and patterns; we will digitize and work with those in our “digital studio” (your laptop with Photoshop installed), combining and layering with photography and other digitized visuals. For those who are seeking a solid foundation in Figure drawing, we begin with a focus on observation and learning to use basic tools of drawing such as sighting for size and angle, negative space, understanding proportions of the figure and how to see shape, and foreshortening. We will begin with simple gesture drawings, and contour line drawings, progressing to fully rendered drawings of the figure using values and exploring the use of different drawing media.
