Shades of Summer - Free Online Workshops for Kids!

 
NPCC is nestled in the greenery of Neilson Park and our city parks help build strong communities and healthy environments. Within Neilson Park there are green spaces, a playground and baseball diamond, walking and bike trails and Etobicoke Creek that runs from Caledon to Lake Ontario.

On Thursday, July 30, NPCC will be celebrating our park by offering our "Shades of Summer" workshops a
 mini-series of beginner arts & craft workshops for kids below 12 years of age and their families. These workshops will cover skillful and playful techniques in acrylic painting, sketching and rock painting.
 
The workshops are free of charge! Registration is required. The workshops will be offerred online through the Zoom platform.
 
 
Georgia O’Keeffe Inspired: Acrylic Painting Workshop

Take a closer look at nature’s beautiful summer florals in this acrylic workshop. Students will focus on creating an up-close painting of a flower while exploring the painting style of Georgia O’Keeffe. This workshop will provide an introduction to acrylic paint applications, a brief history of artist Georgia O’Keefe, and step-by-step instructions on how to create your own floral painting inspired by O’Keeffe’s techniques. All levels of experience are welcome.
Materials required are:  paper or canvas (optional), paint, brushes, water, paper towel, pencil, and eraser.
 
 
Floral Themed: Sketching Workshop

Learn the fine skills involved in sketching illustrative pieces from nature. Brush up your botanical knowledge as we focus on sketching herbs, shrubs and flowers found in familiar terrain. Learn artistic techniques towards asserting a comfortable initiation into the realm of sketching.
Materials required are: pencils, pens, markers, pencil crayons, sketchbook (optional), and loose paper.
 
 
 
Art Rocks: Rock Painting Workshop

4 pm - 6 pm
 
A playful activity that reflects the creation of craft around us and community. This paint-along workshop provides the opportunity to let your creativity flow and share your art to be admired at Neilson Park Creative Centre. All painted rocks are welcome to be left around Neilson Park as gems to be explored.
Materials required for the workshop are:
Acrylic Paints - Variety of what you have
• Paint Brushes
• Rocks, any size, one is good two is even better!
• Newspaper for easy clean up!
• Sharpies (Optional - black to outline)
• Paint Pens (Optional - only if you have on hand)
• Pencil (Optional)
• Q-Tips (Optional - for detail work)
• Modge Podge (Optional - to weather proof your rock)
 
 
NPCC has chosen Zoom to be the platform for our online classes. Once you are enrolled, we will email you detailed instructions on how to download the free Zoom platform and the Zoom meeting links. It’s an easy and straightforward process.
