For beginners, seasoned artists in need of a shake-up and those in between, this course can be tailored to meet your needs and will keep you moving on your creative journey. Explore any medium of your choice (no oils, please) and satisfy both sides of your brain by thoughtfully planning your drawing, painting or other artwork without sacrificing spontaneity and life. Today’s artist can’t avoid the digital world around them. More and more artists are being asked to submit artwork digitally, show their work online and have a digital presence of Facebook, Instagram etc.  This 8 week course is designed to take you into the digital world. Over the eight weeks you will learn to photograph your artwork to professional standards, prepare imagery for distribution online, create artwork postcards and build a personal visual blog. Course participants require a laptop computer, Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Elements and a Gmail account. Students also require a digital camera/iPhone and a tripod.

Not a classical life drawing class! Work with a life model as a doorway to exploring artistic thinking and approaches, expression and ways of seeing. Learn how to get more out of your tools and materials and try some you haven’t used before, or in ways you haven’t tried. Each term is different, each week looks to stretch your creative muscles, build your skills and abilities, help you see in new ways. One week leads into the next with an occasional sharp turn. Who hasn’t rendered a landscape at some point in their art-making? From the anticipation of what new delight lies around the next bend to the intimate knowledge of the familiar, a keen sense of place is central to our nature as humans. Well-known or never-before-seen, real or imagined, fact or fiction -- place has an endless capacity to speak to us as artists: we must attempt to capture and express those qualities that we find so moving, intriguing, haunting.

Starting with exercises to get you thinking about the significance of place, as well as honing your observational skills, this course will expand into guided but self-directed exploration and development of personal work relating to the places that matter most to you as an artist.
