Elliot Stocking

Through this painting I considered the levels of control I have over the truth and vulnerability surrounding the communication of pain. Particularly highlighting the destructively tempting ability to lie about difficult situations. This piece allowed me to convey suffering vulnerably, while maintaining a semi-protective barrier between myself and the viewer. The bright colours and sugary bandages illustrate how I try to present my hurt in interpersonal and performative relationships, while the beat-up condition of the legs act as juxtaposition to what that pain might actually look like. I am making a space to be open with myself and with others, while attempting to evade being affected by the rawness of the information. It is an honest piece about being dishonest.
