Olivia Joseph

My work is primarily about identifying what is real, what is imaginary and where the two converge to form inconsistencies in the experience of each individual. Art-making provides me with the space to interpret distortions, such as nostalgia, fantasies and idolization by which my perception of the world is altered. I use portraiture as a tool to understand people in a capacity that I would otherwise never get the chance to. My process involves many stages of planning and reworking with the end goal of achieving a level of trust between myself and the accuracy of what I perceive to be the truth.
