Vinyl Art Tributes

May 9 to May 28, 2023

Location: Emergence and Founders Galleries

Presented by: George Lomaga

An exhibition of tribute vinyl artworks. A collection of vinyl record painting and mixed media projects that are inspired by the musicians that made them!

Having been greatly exposed to the huge wave of pop music that emerged from the 1960s and early 70s, George Lomaga’s Vinyl Art Tributes pay homage to some of his favorite songs and musicians from that time period. Using “everything and anything” that he could find, including rare 45 rpm records of the actual songs, he usually begins by copying the label from the original record and uses it as a “trigger” for the artwork or collage that embraces and encompasses the thoughts, feelings, colours and/or lyrics from the song itself.

Heavily influenced by pop artists Andy Warhol and Banksy as well as collage artist Peter Blake, Lomaga has also expanded his vinyl tributes to include more recent singers and songs and use images of them as centre pieces, as well. Some of these images are from Lomaga’s own personal photographs that he took when he met the artists, either through film work or concerts that he attended.
