Paul Mattioli

For Paul, painting is always about telling a story. He see’s it as a form of universal communication intended to reach the viewer on many levels. In doing so, his paintings end up being highly representational with a clear subject matter.

He hopes with this simple composition method he can communicate a bigger picture…one that the viewer steps into.

Paul was born in Toronto to an immigrant family that migrated from Italy in the early 1960’s. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. In his mid-twenties, he graduated from Humber College with a Graphic Arts Degree with Honours and then started his own freelance business in illustration.

For 25 years most of his commercial artwork was contained in the technical side of the field with a small amount of advertising design work. Five years ago, he left commercial art and made the transition into painting.
