Point of view is an important preliminary step in any composition that employs realism. You invite the observer to look with you and this adds depth to their understanding. Point of View can also be expressed conceptually as well as mechanically. It impacts storytelling and leads to choices in style, composition and content. Presented in partnership with Islington Seniors’ Centre. Materials included.

Working with a model is an important building block of artistic training. This workshop will focus on observation and basic tools of drawing, using a tablet computer. With a finger or stylus, practice sighting for size, angle and shape, negative space, and foreshortening. Prior experience working from a tablet is necessary. Materials list available HERE.

Encaustic Painting

Create beautiful paintings by applying a mixture of beeswax, tree resin, and paint to wood and fusing the layers together with heat. Maps are visually interesting and have great potential for personal expression. Through inspiring map art examples and exercises, we’ll spend the weekend mapping out new artistic territory! Not just for cat and dog lovers - we will explore a variety of approaches in portraying our favourite animals and pets – from line to gestures drawings and understanding structure, to finished works in different techniques and media. We will work from photos. Classroom instruction includes demonstrations, slideshows to introduce the work of artists who specialize in portraying animals, one-on-one instruction and class critiques in a supportive environment.
