After autumn’s final burst of glory, a more understated, nuanced palette descends on our world. Populated with highly-modified tones and shades of tertiary colours and punctuated with the clean, stark value contrasts brought by snow and sun, winter brings the painter a much-needed chromatic reprieve and palette cleanse. Participants will begin by examining the season’s colours and their associations before launching into exploratory mixing exercises. From there, inspired by masterwork examples, they will move into more painterly and personal investigations of these quiet colours in literal and metaphorical contexts.
