Slumber (Lismer, Evening Silhouette)
In my recent painting series, Group of Seven Inspired Anthropomorphic Landscapes, I began by examining compositions by the Group of Seven artists and let the forms within them inspire new contexts. My painting Slumber (Lismer, Evening Silhouette) explores how we as humans are tied to nature through form and behaviour. The state of calm and comfort of a pair bond is portrayed by this slumbering couple. This couple represents how I experience this type of emotional bond, how deeply it feels rooted, and how it can anchor and sustain. The figures are loosely based on myself and my husband.
