Margaux Wilkinson

My work is a form of processing and healing. It is related to the interconnectedness of relationships and experience. How those relationships affect one’s experience, how those experiences are different from person to person, and how past experiences remain present in current bonds. Human nature, likeness, and identity often come up in my work as well. I enjoy exploring themes of family bonds and inheritance of traits and values, and further expanding that idea to our society as a whole. Inspecting how we are fundamentally affected by the way our society functions. My piece explores similarities and connections between strangers.

I adapted Margaux’s concept of her star series into a Python program to help automate the process of creating art. The program asks a series of questions all relating to identity and self-perception to be answered on a scale of one to five, creating a unique star for each person. In this digital form, the project is even more accessible to others and able to be interacted with. Interactive art has always left an impression on me because I am able to have a direct influence on the work, even as a viewer. I hope that the program can evolve into something more widespread that allows for greater interactivity and explores deeper facets of human nature.
