Iterations: The Exploration Continues

This exhibition is presented as a time line between 2020-2023 inclusive. The paintings are arranged progressively as topics for compositions are revealed from previous paintings, thereby, weaving a creative thread from one painting to the next.

Linda Newton continues to design and hand cut her own stencils onto mylar. These are used as a basis for compositions. Linda develops the content using colour, line, shape, texture, movement, dimension, and surprise. Surprise is achieved by using either opalescent paint or metallic paint, which becomes illuminated when light catches the painting. She continues to work in series.

Dragon Series
The inspiration for the dragons appeared as a small dragon like shape from a previous painting. The notion of a dragon inspired Linda to develop a series of dragon paintings. The first painting of this exhibition used a stencil for its composition that is now used for the dragon scales of these paintings.

Calligraphic Shapes Series
This series was created as Linda noticed some of the dragon scales resembled glyphs or characters (but were without meaning or cultural reference). These shapes were arranged to form compositions.

Series Three
The jumping off point for this series comes from applying lines of acrylic ink onto a circle board and then slowly rotating the board. Shapes and patterns began to emerge. Linda then edits and refines the content creating a highly usable design which she then cuts into a stencil. This stencil has produced a wealth of subject matter to be explored. Out of curiosity, Linda, applied the above technique to a rectangular board and triangular board. These designs were also explored.

Pay attention
Be astonished
Tell about it.
