The current health crisis has limited everyone’s activities – for many, life has been at a standstill—a long-term pause from normalcy. For Philippine Artists Group (PAG) members, the crisis has had a profound effect on how they view art and art making. The lack of venues and/or opportunities for in-person art displays has, to a certain degree, dampened artists’ zest.

However, for artists, to create art is to live, and create they did.

The Philippine Artists Group (PAG) of Canada’s 2022 Art Exhibit showcases seventy plus paintings produced by fifteen member artists from 2020 to date. Done mostly in oils, acrylics and watercolours, they depict landscapes, urban scenes, florals, still life, and portraits, as well as slices of life during this pandemic.

RESURGENCE shows how, for these exhibiting artists, art making has been a lifeline – a challenging, engrossing activity for self-expression and creativity. By sharing their art in this third year of the pandemic, the artists hope to revive our love for community, culture, and all things beautiful.
