White thread on white fabric ground is a favourite form of embroidery in most countries. This course will introduce the students to different types of national whitework -their history and how they are produced. The major classifications of white work will be covered, and handouts will provide instructions on how to do each type. Participants will create a project that illustrates one or more types of whitework, making their own design or using a free pattern. Some experience in embroidery would be helpful throughout the sessions.
