Location: Online
Sessions: 1 Sunday
Instructor: Elaine Chu
Level: All Levels

In celebration of Asian History Month, California based artist Elaine Chu leads an online session in book binding that will be streamed in an NPCC studio as well as online for those who would like to join remotely. Elaine will lead the class in free-form painting of book covers, using watercolours on beautiful Washi papers and then will teach basic book binding skills and terminology. Students will use the pamphlet-stitch to sew a multi-signature book – perfect as a keepsake or gift! Each participant will complete one book with the option to follow along as Elaine demonstrates a second smaller sewn pamphlet with a clever slot-and-tab closure. All levels welcome—no previous experience needed. Materials will be available at NPCC or the Japanese Paper Place. Please see the NPCC website for the materials list. Materials will be provided for participants that register for the in person, streamed session held at the centre.
