Neilson Park Creative Centre January, 2024 AGM Speech

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow members, and honored guests, I stand before you today with immense pride and joy as we reflect upon the remarkable journey of Neilson Park Creative Centre in its 30th Anniversary Year.

This past year has been nothing short of a spectacular success, marked by an array of events and celebrations that have truly defined the essence of our creativity, inclusivity, and community engagement. Our collective efforts have not only enhanced the cultural fabric of our center, but have also left an indelible mark on the diverse tapestry of artistic expression.

One of the most rewarding occasions of our 30th Anniversary Year for me was the inaugural Pride Festival last June. We took a bold step forward in fostering an environment that celebrates diversity and inclusion. The rainbow of creativity and acceptance was not just a symbol but a lived experience that resonated through our halls. It was heartening to witness the bright spectrum of talent that our community holds, and we are committed to making the Pride Festival a recurring celebration for years to come.

The success of our outdoor Creative Festival in July was another testament to the power of art in bringing people together. Against the backdrop of nature, our members and the local community united to showcase their artistic prowess, transforming our surroundings into a living canvas of imagination and inspiration. The joy and camaraderie that echoed through the festival grounds were a true embodiment of the spirit that defines Neilson Park Creative Centre.

Our Handmade sales events, both in the spring and winter, were not only opportunities for our talented artisans to display their crafts but also served as vital platforms for supporting local artists. The resounding success of these events speaks volumes about the commitment of our community to fostering a thriving artistic economy and sustaining the creative spirit.

A special nod of appreciation goes out to all who made our summer camp programs a resounding success. The enthusiastic participation and overwhelming attendance underscore the importance of nurturing young talents and creating lasting memories through artistic exploration. Your generous, ongoing support ensures the continuity of our educational initiatives, inspiring the next generation of artists to flourish within the welcoming embrace of Neilson Park Creative Centre.

Let’s not forget the breathtaking art exhibits that graced our galleries throughout the year. From the intricate fiber art, the mesmerizing calligraphy and fine art displays of our resident groups to the awe-inspiring works of renowned artists in our community, our galleries were a visual feast for the soul. These exhibitions not only showcased the rich tapestry of artistic styles but also provided a platform for dialogue and appreciation, fostering a deeper connection between artists and art enthusiasts.

And most of these marvelous successes would not – could not – have happened without the diligence, talent and labour of our staff, full time, part time and volunteer, everyone dug deep to ensure our on-going success. From me, a particular thank-you to Petra, and her staff – Cory, Julia and Alexander.

As we stand on the cusp of a new year, let us carry the momentum of our 30th Anniversary Year forward. The successes we’ve achieved are a testament to the dedication and passion of every individual associated with Neilson Park Creative Centre. Let’s continue to nurture creativity, celebrate diversity, and build a future where art thrives and unites us all.

Thank you for your unwavering support, and here’s to many more years of inspiration, innovation, and artistic brilliance at Neilson Park Creative Centre.

Special Acknowledgments:

I want to express my deepest appreciation to our members, donors, volunteers, and the entire community for your continuous support. Your dedication to Neilson Park Creative Centre has been instrumental in our achievements, and I have full confidence that, under new leadership, our center will continue to flourish.

This is my sixth – and final – AGM as your President. At my first AGM in January 2018, I reported our last deficit year – some $ 36,000. After 5 years in a row of deficits we have moved forward, growing from a small to a mid sized Not for Profit Organization. Thank you all for your unwavering support and trust in your Board. Our treasurer, Aleksandra will review the highlights of this most recent financial years in her report.

In conclusion, as I pass the torch to your incoming leadership, I am filled with pride for what we have accomplished together since 2018 even as COVID had devastating effects on many organizations similar to ours. Neilson Park Creative Centre is not just an organization; it is a community, a family of artists and art enthusiasts. I encourage you to actively participate, share your ideas, and contribute to the continued success of this remarkable institution.

Thank you for the honor of serving as your President. I look forward to witnessing the ongoing growth and success of Neilson Park Creative Centre.
