CALL FOR ENTRY: NPCC Celebrates PRIDE 2024
Wearable Art Fashion Show: OFF THE WALL

Dear Student Designers who are members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community,

In celebration of Pride Month 2024 and in acknowledgement of the right we all should have
to simply, justly and freely ‘Be’, we invite you to NPCC on Friday, June 14th to participate in
the most thrilling, creative and fun wearable art fashion show and competition, ‘OFF THE

WALL’.

Entry Criteria:
– Entrants must identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
– Be a currently enrolled, full-time student in a Toronto-based and recognized post-secondary fashion design program

– Be available for showing their entry on Friday, June 14th at Neilson Park Creative Centre during the NPCC Pride 2024 Wearable Art Fashion Show: OFF THE WALL event between 6 and 9 p.m.

Designers are invited to submit a proposal for entry to the juried show and compete for one of TWO EXCITING PRIZES! Participants are to work independently. The submission can include wearable sculpture, painted wearable works, fibre/fabric creations and clothing, the use of inventive and alternative materials, paper made designs and /or any other wearable medium. This is a family friendly event. 15 spaces are available. Entries are subject to juried selection.

OFF THE WALL is:
  • A wearable art fashion show concept that draws on the role of NPCC as an art-making and art exhibition hub in Toronto
  • An inspiring theme that communicates a call to animate and recontextualize what is traditionally displayed as 2D art on gallery walls
  • A call to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community of talented up-and-coming student fashion designers in Toronto
PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the top two finalists.
1st Prize:
– $200 cash

2nd Prize:
– $100 Cash

One prize per winning submission will be awarded.
 
Judging Criteria:
– Originality of creative concept

– Adherence to creative concept
– Creative use of materials
– Quality execution and workmanship
– Presentation (wow factor)

Requirements to Entry:

1. Illustration – Both a creative illustration (full colour in any style that lends itself to your
concept), and technical illustration (measurements and patterns are not required, this is to
be a clear line drawing showing details of workmanship, finishing and style characteristics).
The front and back of the design is to be depicted.
2. Descriptive Proposal – Written submission (three paragraphs or less) outlining creative
concept, materials to be used, inspiration and any relevant thematic background
information.
3. Swatches of materials/media to be submitted with illustration (scans and good quality photos with fibre or material content information included).
4. Form Requirements – Designer name, name of educational institution, model name if
available (individual will not be introduced on the runway), item details, number of items in
ensemble. The designers will be announced during the show as their creations are featured.
If a designer would like additional descriptive information to be shared while their design is
being modeled, please include a maximum 3 sentence max. blurb below your written
proposal and clearly state that this is the description for the presenter during the show.
* Designers are responsible for the appropriate care and storage of submissions. NPCC is not
responsible for lost or stolen items.

Additional information:

– There are 15 available participant spaces for students identifying as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
– Designers can arrive as early as 1p.m. to set up or prepare as needed
– A full event schedule will follow once the selection process is completed
– Show location: OFF THE WALL will take place in the NPCC Art Space Connect Gallery​
– Day of show: Dressers will not be provided. Participants will be required to organize their own model, prep and dress the model in the designated designer holding area. Hair and make-up should be completed prior to arrival. Tables, seating and rolling racks will be provided as well as a dedicated room with partitioned changing areas available. We will have a limited number of mirrors.
– Submissions must be able to be worn successfully and independently by a model. Models to be provided by participants. All types welcome.
*NPCC is a scent-free and solvent-free environment. Hair spray, perfume, scented or solvent based paints or spray paints are not permitted to be used in the centre.

Designers will be notified of the status of their acceptance by: May 9, 2024. Entries are subject to juried selection.
