NPCC Community Call to Participate In the NPCC PRIDE 2024, Wearable Art Fashion Show: OFF THE WALL

Dear Neilson Park Creative Centre Community,

In celebration of Pride Month 2024 and in acknowledgement of the right we all should have to simply, justly and freely ‘Be’, we invite you to submit an entry to participate in the most thrilling, creative and fun wearable art fashion show, ‘OFF THE WALL’ on Friday, June 14th, 2024.

Community entry submissions are to consist of one full ensemble to the NPCC Community segment of the show. Participants are to submit independently or as a pair. One prize will be awarded per finalist. Entry submissions are subject to jury selection and there are 15 available spaces. Submissions can include wearable sculpture, painted wearable works, fibre art creations, inventive and alternative material-made designs and ensembles composed of any media. This is a family friendly event.

OFF THE WALL is:

  • A wearable art fashion show concept that draws on the role of NPCC as an art-making and art exhibition hub in Toronto
  • An inspiring theme that communicates a call to animate and recontextualize what is traditionally displayed as 2D art on gallery walls
  • A call to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community and get as creative as you like in your submission to the NPCC Celebrates Pride 2024 Wearable Art Fashion Show: OFF THE WALL

Requirements to Entry:

  1. Illustration – Both a creative illustration (full colour in any style that lends itself to your concept), and technical illustration (measurements and patterns are not required, this is to be a clear line drawing showing details of workmanship, finishing and style characteristics). The front and back of the design is to be depicted.
  2. Descriptive Proposal – Written submission (three paragraphs or less) outlining creative concept, materials to be used, inspiration and any relevant thematic background information.
  3. Swatches of materials/media to be submitted with illustration (scans and good quality photos with fibre or material content information included).
  4. Form Requirements – Designer name, contact information, phone and email, name of creation, model name if available (individual will not be introduced on the runway), item details, number of items in ensemble. The designers will be announced during the show as their creations are featured. *Designers are responsible for the appropriate care and storage of submissions. NPCC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Additional Information:

  • Entry packages must consist of all required materials: Creative illustration, technical illustration, descriptive proposal, swatch cards and registrant form.
  • Packages to be electronically submitted through the online application found at the bottom of this page.
  • Day of show: Dressers will not be provided. Participants are strongly encouraged to arrive ready. This includes hair and make-up, if applicable.
  • Submissions must be able to be worn successfully and independently by the model.
  • Models are to be provided by participants, all model types welcome
  • The show will take place in the NPCC Art Space Connect Gallery

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions in the Community Entries category which includes Resident Groups and the NPCC Community, a total of 21 entries.

1ST Prize:

$200 gift certificate to be redeemed at NPCC for any NPCC offered class in the 2024 – 2025 year. The lucky finalist will also receive a certificate of award, be featured on the NPCC website as well as in a post event social media winner announcement campaign.

2nd Prize:

$100 gift certificate to be redeemed at NPCC for any NPCC offered class in the 2024 – 2025 year.

3rd Prize:

$75 gift certificate to be redeemed at NPCC for any NPCC offered class in the 2024 – 2025 year.

Award for participating Resident Groups: Should a resident group entry place in the final three, an NPCC Space Use Gift Certificate valued at $200 will be awarded to the entire group.

One prize per winning submission will be awarded.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Originality of creative concept
  • Adherence to creative concept
  • Creative use of materials
  • Quality execution and workmanship
  • Presentation (wow factor)

Event Juror/s: TBC

Form Requirements:

ORDER OF PARTICIPATION:

Selected participants are to show up to the event on FRIDAY, June 14th, ready and dressed to join the lineup of catwalkers. Participants must come fully prepared, there will be no area available for dressing, make up or hairstyling. Participants must be on theme to participate and submissions must align with submitted proposals. Once registered and accepted, entrants must participate. Should you not want to expose your creation prior to the show, please arrange for your own methods to conceal the entry. This is an all-ages family event.

An image of the completed entry must be submitted to the NPCC office to julia@neilsonparkcreativecentre by Friday June 7. This is to ensure we are able to organize and recognize all entries and arrange a day of schedule. An event schedule will be deleivered to all selected participants.

Designers will be notified of the status of their acceptance by: May 9, 2024. Entries are subject to juried selection.
